Starting the biking season [6/10]

today was especially cold and windy
So, the biking season has begun!  Yay...
First flat tire, first tire replacement (tube), scheduled first tune up, already had my first drenching (my clothes and shoes from that day are STILL wet).

I'm at 6/10 so far... what with a flat tire, a supply day and just some normal stuff... 60%... and then Monday I have to bring in the bike and not pick it up until Tuesday (so that'll be 6.5/11, then 7/12 -- I really wanted them to be able to take it in on the same day).  And next week is After Business, so there's another day gone.

But at least I'm doing it.

And, I'm not doing the 'stop and go hack' biking.  I've come to a decision.

I'm giving up on Ingress.

Maybe not permanently, but I have to admit, I was getting a little... obsessive.  Watching the intel map all day, and really all the diverting and new routes were burning through my gas.  On the bike it just meant it was killing my biking time, plus it really was taking me longer.

Sucks as there's been some new portals coming on line... maybe I'll be back.  I think if there were more players, else I feel like it's just me out there and then my competitive nature makes me believe that it's my responsibility.

It's not... so no more portals for me.  It's not going quite as well as I'd hoped, so I went and deleted the apps off of my phone.  Still, I find myself just peeking at the intel map now and again to see what's happening.  I'm going to try to go through the entire of today not looking.  We'll see how that goes.

I feel like a quitter, but really it's that I'm jealous of those that can play way more often than I could.  I even found myself interested in volunteering for the City's Public Art Committee, just so I could find a way to heighten the interest in the game.

RIP Bert, Happy Bday Nolie, & Maypril Fools Day [2/3]

So I started biking the other day... after it was terribly bad for allergies (I had to leave work early).

Then today was Maypril Fools Day and I tried to look up last year's post and saw that I had already biked 12 days by this time last year... ouch.

Better late than never, no?

Oh, and Happy Birfday big bro!  [i.e. Nolan]

Flinging @ the Foundry

So a while ago we thought up to have a 'fun event' some time in between the Holiday lull and the heavy parade season, and I've had the idea of a 'spring concert' on the back burner for a while.  That idea never happened, but we decided on "Fling @ the Foundry".

Results are in!

The results of the online competition are back in -- still awaiting the adjudication sheets.  But the results are up.

Essentially:  3rd last, 2nd last and last!

Grade 2 Jigs
Kenny Gilles of Portnalong Skye / Dale's Chimichanga
4th Place

This was the one I was the least confident of

Grade 2 6/8 March
Bonnie MacAlpine
5th Place

Grade 2 Hornpipe
Hiccup
6th Place

Congrats to Rob Grant on his 4th Place and Charne Pattrick on her 2 1sts!

Remember when weekends were for relaxing?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining.  But, there was a time when we once used to spend Saturday and Sunday in pyjama pants the entire time.

You'd work on maybe something small, or big, but it was something you REALLY enjoyed, so it wasn't work.

Nowadays, as we've "grown up" there's "responsibilities".  I'm not bemoaning them at all.  But there are times I'd wish I could go back to not worrying about putting on pants.

This past weekend was awesome though.

Saturday:

  • Piping at the United Way Dodgeball Tournament at 9am (oi, early for a weekend)
  • Shopping with Dean for Ben's birthday present
  • Dean going to Ben's birthday party at Gammondale's
  • Dean visit with my parents as they were watching Peter and Wilson

Sunday:

  • Pick up Dylan for 830am
  • Take Dylan and Dean to the Easter Bunny breakfast at the Moose
    • good fun, not bad pancakes, bake table and well, the kids got to see the Easter Bunny because they didn't want to get close
  • Visit Cookie to install a new router
  • Take Dylan and Dean to Vanderwee's for more Easter fun
    • They had a craft of making a cup to grow grass and a popsicle stick egg/chick thingie
    • Easter egg hunt running around the store finding taped on eggs
    • Fudge!

It was a lot of fun. Dyl and Dean get along so well and it's hilarious watching them fun.  Plus the amount of sugar they had that day probably shouldn't have been allowed.

Maybe next weekend I'll 'relax'.  It was worth it this past weekend to delay that relaxing.

My son's pretty thoughtful

So yeah, it's March Break and trying to find things for him to do meant he had a fair number of outings for him and friends.

On Friday he had one friend over. I came home and they were playing and I went to the kitchen. I opened the fridge and somehow noticed a half eaten sandwich just sitting in terms meat drawer.

Odd.

Turns out he was eating it before she came over, then knowing she's allergic to peanuts, but not wanting to lose the sandwich, put it in the fridge for later.

Aww... Sweet.

What wasn't sweet was the look he gave me later when she left and said "oh, great I can have my sandwich now" but I had to tell him that I threw it out.
