April 13 - A Fox and a Pony tried to deliver a message

The Pony Express... a system of  riders to help deliver mail across America coast to coast.

As famous as it was it didn't really last long; but it got its start and had it's first completed run to Sacramento on this day in 1860 (took 10 days).

About 300 years before that another person tried to deliver a message, one Guy Fawkes, who was the 'fall guy' for the Gunpowder Plot, was born on this day in 1570.

January 31 - Guy in a Hot Box

Many of you may know of the relevance of November 5th as the day that the Gunpowder Plot was discovered and stopped - but it took until today in 1606 for the trials to conclude and execute the conspirators.

Execution for treason is especially gruesome as they were hanged, drawn and quartered.  Although, it should technically be 'drawn' (by carriage to the place of execution), hanged (almost to the point of death) and then quartered (cut into 4 pieces, usually after disemboweling).

So Guy Fawkes's death, and then 375 years later, Justin Timberlake is born.

The now 41 year old you may recognize from such hits as D*ck in a Box, Motherlovers and 3-Way (the Golden Rule).  And I think a few other things, but probably not as important.

As it's still pretty cold around in my neck of the woods, so why not stay warm with a cup of Hot Chocolate.  If you're in the US today is National Hot Chocolate Day.

So, do you put marshmallows in BEFORE or after?

November 5 - Remember Remember the Rubin Plot

November 5h - for many it's a day of wearing the Guy Fawkes' mask and having a little bonfire outside.

Where that comes from is that in 1605 a guy named Guy Fawkes and some other conspirators had come up with the 'gunpowder plot', where they were to tunnel under the House of Lords and fill the tunnel with barrels and barrels of gunpowder and blow it to smithereens.

The purpose of which was to kill the King James I who had really trampled on some Catholic rights.  However, someone snitched on it and johnny law caught Guy Fawkes redhanded in the tunnels on November 5, 1605.

They probably should have had better means of planning so that it wasn't found out... like a good phone app.  For me, my phone of choice has always been Google, and well, on this day in 2007, Andy "Android" Rubin's pet project of a new phone operating system was released.

It would still be a while before they brought out the first commercially available HTC Dream (or the G1)
