October 7th - Yo-yo'ing with pretzels on the moon

 For a long long long time within human history, we'd only ever been able to see one side of the moon.  Yet, in 1959, thanks to the USSR's Luna 3 space probe, humans got their first glimpse of what the other side of the moon looked like.

Interesting.  You'd almost think that the moon would spin as it orbits, but no, it's always facing us that one way.  Which is good as it's got a lot of craters on that side taking the asteroids hits for us.

August 25 - Bond shares dessert with the moon men

 Picture in your mind James Bond... the 007 with the license to kill.

I bet you that Sean Connery is that mental image.  The quintessential Bond in my mind, amongst other great acting as well (who can forget Zardoz).  If Sean had not died last year, he would have been 89 today.

There was that time that Bond went to space in Moonraker, but never got to the moon itself.

If he had, maybe he could have looked up to see if the Great Moon Hoax was in fact true...

In 1835 the New York Sun published a story (they said it was from some famous astronomers, it wasn't) about how they looked through a telescoope at the moon and saw creatures with wings and furry...

The Sun never retracted this story.

I like to think it's what inspired that French film "A Trip to the Moon" and then that in turn inspired the Smashing Pumpkins' Tonight video.

Speaking of pumpkins, apparently it'll be pumpkin spice latte season soon (way sooner than normal) and ... ick... one thing you shouldn't put pumpkins in?

July 20 - Neil & Buzz landed on the moon to play some chess and have a lollipop

 A few days ago we mentioned that the Apollo 11 had lifted off and was on its way to the moon.  Well, July 20th, 1969 the lunar module landed on the moon and Neil got to utter his famous words.

July 20th is also the 'International Chess Day' - so I wonder if after bopping around on the moon for the day the pair hopped into the module and played a round of chess with Michael Collins, who went all that way but never got to step foot on the moon, as a bit of a consolation prize.

To cap of the momentous day, they probably cheersed each other with a lollipop, as today is also Canada's National Lollipop Day (or as geeks like me would know... Android 5.x).

Even though that isn't in anywhere official that I can find.
