January 19 - the littlest piece of the heart of an atom

Janis Joplin had an amazing voice - it was strong with depth and a bit of harshness to it with still that feminine soul.

That soul was born today in 1943.

Like some very popular musicians, she passed away at the age of 27.

Now, if you ask me, a quark is a subatomic particle... that to be honest, I don't really understand, however in the minds of others, 'quark' or sometimes 'quarq' is a type of cheese.

Apparently today is set aside to celebrate this type of cheese.

World Quark Day is January 19th.

I still want to celebrate the mini quarks.

October 4th - Pets, Tacos, and Vodka were all Pieces of Her Heart

Okay, I still can't believe that it's October already.  Just whizzing by.

On this day in 1970 the world said goodbye to an amazing singer in Janis Joplin.

She was just 27.

All that passion wrapped up in an amazing voice, I'm sure she drew some inspiration from several places, like a family pet...

It's World Animal Day.

Which was first observed in 1925.  Did you know that St. Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of pets?

She may have also had inspiration from some good food and drink.  It's both National Taco Day and National Vodka Day in the US.

Now, it's also the start of World Space Week.  Cool.
