Another end of an era was the discovery of penicillin - an antibacterial agent to help rid of certain diseases.
Penicillin was discovered by Alexander Fleming on this day in 1928
A great alternative to the sulfa drugs prior to it. Tho', the date seems to vary depending on who you talk to. September 3rd is when he notices it had an effect, and September 28th he was able to conduct an experiment that replicated. So I imagine some time in between is when he discovered it.
And it seems lately that drugs are quite the political topic.
It's a good thing we live in a democracy then. To celebrate the UN decided in 2007 to call September 15th the International Day of Democracy.
Speaking of democracy... don't forget to exercise that right and vote on September 20th.
